CAISSA Sports Tournament

Here are the results for the CAISSA sports tournament for varsity boys’ soccer and girls’ basketball which took place at Academia Cotopaxi in Quito, Ecuador from May 21 to 23.  ECA competed against the International School of Port of Spain, Trinidad (ISPS), the Carol Morgan School, Dominican Republic (CMS) and Academia Cotopaxi in Quito, Ecuador (AC).

Sam and Maya were selected for the All –Tournament Team in both of their respective sports.  Congratulations to all the coaches and athletes who took part in this event.

HS VANAS Tournament

Our HS Boys’ soccer and girls’ basketball teams competed in Valencia in the VANAS tournament last Thursday, April 7 to Saturday, April 9.  Our boys beat EBV in the finals by a score of 3-0 to become VANAS champions.  Pancho, Sam, Francisco and Gonzalo C. were selected for the All Star team.  Other boys that contributed to the success at the tournament were Paolo V., Fernando, Lucas, Shaul, Santiago , Hector, Anton, Ernesto, Agustin, Paolo F. and Gonzalo G.  Our girls lost a close final to EBV by a score of 31 to 27.  Barbara was selected to the All Star team.  The other girls that helped us get to the finals were Madeline, Veronica, Catalina, Sara, Andrea, Belen, Laura, Eliza, Barbara, Vanessa and Najla.  Congratulations go out to all the VANAS teams from all three seasons for helping ECA secure the VANAS Cup for the first time in its four year existence.  Thanks also go out to Mr. Pendlebury, Mr. Deutsch, Mr. Simone, Mr. Swiderski and Miss Abraham for the guidance with the teams.  Below is a summary of all the games played at the VANAS tournament in Valencia:

ECA Community Tennis Tournament

On Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3 seven doubles teams played in a tennis tournament at ECA.  The results of the tournament are as follows:

MS VANAS Sports Tournament - Boys’ Basketball and Girls’ Soccer

From Thursday, March 24 to Saturday, March 26 ECA hosted a sports tournament for the VANAS schools.  It was a successful tournament with all the school competing well and showing good sportsmanship. Congratulations to our middle school boys and girls for doing so well in this tournament.

ECA Tennis Tournament Entry Form
There will be a tennis tournament on Saturday, April 2 and Sunday, April 3 at ECA.  It will be a mixed doubles tournament.  It will be for MS & HS students and any adults in our ECA community who are interested in playing.  An adult has to play with a student or two students can play together. Remember, there has to be a male and female on each doubles team.   Be prepared to play anytime during Saturday or Sunday.  If you are interested in playing please fill out the tournament entry form on the Athletics website and hand a hard copy to Andrew Swiderski or send it by e-mail to athletics@eca.com.ve by Monday, March 28.

Varsity Girls’ Basketball

Try outs for varsity girls’  basketball will start Wednesday, March 9  from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.  There will also be try outs on Thursday, March 10 from 3:45 to 6 pm.  Any high school girls interested please meet in the covered court.

CAISSA in Trinidad

Congratulations to our varsity girls’ soccer team and varsity boys’ basketball team for both finishing third at the International School of Port of Spain during the CAISSA tournament from February 24 to 26.  Eliza H., Maya G., Laura H. and Travis Z. were selected for the CAISSA All Tournament Team.  A special thanks goes out to Mr. Robinson and Mr. Faria for their coaching at the CAISSA tournament.  Coach Fogel and coach Simone should also be recognized for their support of the team throughout the season.

Academia Cotopaxi Swim Meet

Congratulations to our middle and high school swim team for coming in second place at the Academia Cotopaxi swim meet in Quito, Ecuador from February 25 to 26.  They did exceptionally well for a team of only eight.  A special thanks goes out to coach Montero and coach Sullivan.

HS VANAS Girls Soccer / Boys Basketball

Congratulations to the Boys' Basketball and Girls' Soccer teams for their excellent play and sportsmanship at VANAS. The boys came in fourth place and the girls won the championship. Travis was an all-star for basketball and Maya, Barbara, Eliza and Susy were all-stars for soccer. In addition, Susy was named the Most Valuable Player for the tournament. Again, congratulations and good luck this week at CAISSA.

High School VANAS at CIC in Caracas

From Thursday, February 17 to Saturday, February 19 CIC in Caracas will host VANAS for varsity boys’ basketball and varsity girls’ soccer.  Teams from Caracas, Puerto la Cruz, Maracaibo and Valencia will be competing.  Tournament play will take place on the following days and times:
Thursday – 11:30 am to 7 pm
Friday – 8:30 am to 6:30 pm
Saturday (playoffs) – 8 am to 12:30 pm

ECA Swim Meet

On Saturday, February 5 and Sunday, February 6 ECA held its VI annual swim meet.  Six different swim teams from Caracas competed in this big event.  More than 70 ECA swimmers from elementary, middle and high school participated, making this the biggest athletic event of the year.  The following were the top three placings per team:

Congratulations to Victor Montero, Pedro Gomez, Jessica Sullivan and all the coaches for making this event a success.  A special thanks goes out to all the parents and masters swimmers for their incredible help during this swim meet.  Congratulations also go out to our girls for coming in first place, our boys for coming in second place and to all our swimmers who brought the overall championship to ECA.

CIC Caracas Sports Tournament

ECA had a very successful sports tournament at CIC Caracas on Friday, January 28 and Saturday, January 29.  The ECA high school boys basketball team defeated CIC 37-36 in the finals.  Our ECA varsity girls’ soccer team beat CIPLC 1-0 in their final.  The International School of Monagas defeated our middle school girls’ soccer team in the finals by a score of 5-1.  CIPLC was victorious over our middle school boys’ basketball team 22-18 in the boy's finals.  We were the only school to be represented in all finals.  Congratulations go out to all student-athletes and coaches who represented ECA so well at this tournament.

Middle & High School  Liga Swim Meet at St. Ignacio in Caracas on Thursday, November 25 and Friday, November 26.  Leave ECA by bus at 2:30 pm.  Back at ECA at 7 pm.

Elementary Soccer Tournament
Friday, November 26
There will be an elementary soccer tournament on Friday, November 26 from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.  Our ECA elementary boys who are involved in the Wednesday soccer program will be competing against Humboldt and Universidade Central de Venezuela.  Games will take place on the turfy and the covered court.

ECA dual swim meet on Saturday, November 27 from 8 am to 10:30 am.  Our ES, MS & HS swim teams will be competing against Humboldt school.

Elementary School Liga Swim Meet at the Los Naranjos Sports Center in Caracas on Thursday, December 2 and Friday, December 3.  Leave ECA by bus at 2:30 pm.  Back at ECA at 7 pm.

Practice starts Tuesday, November 16 on the covered court from 4:00 – 6:00pm.  Practice for the weeks in November and December will be Tuesday, Thursday, Friday on the covered court from 4:00-6:00pm.  All students with an interest in playing basketball for ECA should attend.  If there is a conflict please see either Coach Fogel or Coach Robinson.

Congratulations to the CAISSA Volleyball Teams!

Congratulations to the ECA Varsity girls for winning the CAISSA Volleyball Championship at the Carol Morgan School in the Dominican Republic.  They won the finals in three straight sets against Academia Cotopaxi.  Congratulations also go out to our Varsity Boys Volleyball team for winning the Sportsmanship award and for their inspired play during the tournament.  It is the second year in a row where we have won both of these awards.  Carlos C., Laura H. and Maya G. were selected for the All Tournament CAISSA teams.  The following students deserve praise for their exceptional tournament play and sportsmanship:
