WELCOME
Dear Parents,
Please
make sure to read the
Pre-Kindergarten Assignments
which are on your right column. The work listed
must be returned back to school on
Tuesday November 25th.
For the web pages assignments please make sure you print
the form which gives us an idea how long your child was
working and which sites he visited.
We
feel it is very important to keep students learning over
the election weekend.
In Pre-Kinder the
focus on each child developing personal and social
competence is essential.
Children learn to
become more independent and able to care for themselves.
We select and plan activities that meet the children's
development needs providing opportunities for the
children to interact with others because practice in
socialization skills is important at this level, as well
as to expose the children to new knowledge and
information because this will strengthen their cognitive
development.
Language, math,
science and social skills are all taught through
integrated thematic units. The children will explore
their world through the following:
The children will
learn how to work and play happily with others in the
classroom community, how they are the same and different
from other members from the class, parts of the body,
feelings, and vocabulary associated with family.
The students will
observe and search for different insects at home and at
school in order to discuss their characteristics,
similarities and differences. They will also
observe the cycle of a butterfly by having them search
for caterpillars.
Students will discuss
different types of transportation. How are the
useful for us? What vehicles have we ridden? Based on
these class discussions and explorations, the class
observes similarities and differences.
The students will
discuss farm and wild animals. They will focus on
the animals body coverings, diet, means of communication
and habitat.
In this unit students
will observe different types of seeds and leaves to
sort, classify, measure, and weigh them. They will
plant seeds and care for them. Special emphasis
will be placed on the sequence of events.
Best Regards,
The Pre-Kinder Team
