File Management

All images, html docs, and support material that you want to appear on the website, must be saved in the site folder.

The site folder, as called the root folder, is folder that contains all files for the website.

All HTML files must have their own image folder. For example,
index.html
index_images
ancient.html
ancient_images
art.html
art_images
File Naming Convention
- all lowercase
- no spaces, use underscore instead
- no special characters (! & * % $ ? / <> "" etc.)
- don't start with a number, but you can end a number
** establish a naming system and stick with it **

Choosing Images

Choose images with the same background color as your web page. This will make the image look embedded in the page because you will not see the edge of the image.

Avoid pixelated images by choosing large images with good resolution. Do not enlarge images.

Site the source of your image and use images licensed under the creative commons such as the images found on
yotophoto.com. See
"Royalty Free Images" for other suggested sites.

Creating Animated GIFs with Fireworks

Open the image in Macromedia Fireworks

Select the image.

Modify > Animation > Animate Selection

Choose your desired settings.

Preview the animation using the controls at the bottom of the screen.

Change the frame rate, delete, and add frames using the Frames and History panel.

To change the frame rate choose "Properties"from the panel options menu.

Save your animation as an Animated GIF. File > Image Preview

Choose Animated GIF as the format.

If you want a see through background, choose Alpha Transparency from the transparency drop down menu.

Press Export.
