Welcome to the
Middle School

Alicia Brown
Middle School Principal |
The ECA Middle School is a learning community designed for
sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. The Middle School
years are ones that are absolutely critical in a child’s
moral, social and intellectual development. It is an
intensely dynamic period in a child’s life, characterized by
tremendous physical and emotional changes, and by the
formation lasting attitudes about learning, self, and one’s
role in society.
In the Middle School, we have carefully designed the
educational program around several key beliefs: |
Middle
school students are academically very capable and therefore
should experience intellectual challenge consistently.
Learning
for middle school students is largely a social activity.
Natural tendencies
to want to be together, to ‘belong’, and
to be perceived positively by their
peers should act as
catalysts for maximizing learning.
The
goal of middle school is general education. Students should
be exposed
to a broad and deep range of approaches to
knowledge and learning
Our middle school design ensures that we:
Provide
a caring and stable environment.
Apply
learning strategies which are both effective and appropriate
to
young adolescents undergoing rapid physical, social, and
emotional development.
Create
a variety of opportunities for students to explore their
individuality
within the context of a community.
Promote
international understanding in the specific context of early
adolescence.
Ensure
that, by the time students move on to the high school, they
have the
learning attitudes, study skills and essential
knowledge required to succeed
in the high school program.
